The Functional Macromolecular Laboratory is located in the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building at the University of Maryland, College Park. It contains a comprehensive set of characterization equipment for polymer  mechanical, thermal, dielectric, conductive properties.

We conduct polymer research with application in several areas:

  • Molecular Biosensors
  • Drug Delivery Carriers
  • Electrolytes for Lithium Batteries
  • Hemostatic Agents
  • Hydrogel Entrapment of Proteins
  • Radio Frequency Devices
  • Blood Compatible Coatings for Stents and Vascular Grafts
  • Polymer physics and phase transitions in polymer systems
  • Polymer morphology and structure
  • Chain conformation and shape of synthetic and bio- polymers
  • Neutron and X-ray scattering characterization of materials
  • Transmission electron microscopy of polymers
