In the PDF below, we’ve highlighted certain program requirements for each program (with the exception of ABRM), mostly upper-level courses and approved or cross-listed courses from our partner departments. There are a lot of courses across campus that are thematically Black Studies or adjacent and could complement your interests; if you discover courses in Testudo that are not approved on our list, please bring them to Marshal F. Washington (lahsram9@umd.edu), attention and we can discuss the applicability on a case-by-case basis.

Early registration is well underway. Below are just a few tips or best practices for each program:

  • AASD majors (including AASD Public Policy students) – Do not forget that you have Mandatory Advising and will not be able to register for the spring until you meet with me to remove your block, this includes double majors. You can schedule that meeting using the link below my signature line.
  • AASD Certificate students – You can use any upper-level AASP course (w/o restrictions) to fulfill your elective courses of choice, and AASP400 is being offered to fulfill the capstone.
  • African Studies and Black Women’s Studies minors – Approved courses for your programs are listed on the second page of the PDF.
  • Anti-Black Racism minors – We are in the process of developing a list of confirmed program requirements offered in the spring (it’s a lot…); for now please use Testudo and the program course list here to plan your schedule.

For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Marshal F. Washington (lahsram9@umd.edu).
