COMM 449P Black Podcasts This course examines the cultural production and significance of Black podcasts. Students will examine how podcasts can help us make sense of shifting meanings of race, gender, and sexuality. There is no prior podcast production experience required for this course, and you will not leave this course with superior podcast skills.
Instead, students will deconstruct podcasts with Blackness at its center, and apply critical media skills to analyze podcasts. This course is for both superfans of podcasts and those who have never listened to a podcast before this course. The course will be asynchronous.

It is open to junior students and beyond inside and outside the department of Communication. You can check out our class podcast here! The winter course students will also be adding to the class podcast, although there is no prior podcast knowledge needed for this class. The class has been engaging and very hands-on, and will continue this way in the online format as well.
