Campbell Wolov, Student Intern
University of Maryland Extension Agriculture and Food Systems Program
Agriculture and Food Systems (AgFS) Extension is pleased to welcome its newest member Charles (Charlie) Sasscer to the team. Charlie is the new Prince George’s County AgFS Extension Educator and we look forward to working alongside him to provide research-based educational programming to benefit current and aspiring Maryland farmers. Charlie completed his B.S. in Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University (OSU), and recently received his M.S. from Kansas State University in Ruminant Nutrition. He began employment with Extension on November 9.
A Southern Maryland native, Charlie has taken advantage of the wealth of local resources available to gain practical knowledge in a variety of agricultural fields. He has amassed hands-on experience from an early age, helping manage his family’s farm in Park Hall, MD and assisting in the breeding, feeding, and management of his own beef cattle herd. Charlie has subsequently held experiential positions as a student worker at the Willard Sparks Beef Research Center in Stillwater, OK, as well as a summer intern at Black Leg Ranch in North Dakota.
In addition to his abundance of agricultural involvement, Charlie possesses entrepreneurial and leadership competencies as well. He previously served as Secretary of the Oklahoma Collegiate Cattlemen’s Association and Representative on the OSU Student Council. Charlie continues to raise beef cattle and said he aims to “develop a branded beef program to market to local communities and nearby urban populations.”
UME is fortunate to have Charlie onboard, and we believe his expertise will benefit Prince George’s County, the Capitol Cluster, and Maryland for years to come. Please give Charlie a warm welcome.
