Undergraduates

I accept undergraduate assistants for pay or academic credit; positions include a combination of routine laboratory maintenance and guided original research. I am particularly looking for students with interests in microbiology or plant biology, ecology, evolution, and bioinformatics (computational biology) and who have more than a year before graduation. Prior laboratory experience or practice with relevant skills (which can include hobbies) is a big plus, as are coding skills. Availability during summer and winter breaks (of course with time off for holidays) is helpful, and students wishing to do field work should have at least a drown-proof level of swimming skills. If you are interested, please send an email directly to me (delwiche -at- umd.edu).

Graduates

Graduate students interested in working in the lab can apply through the Biological Sciences Graduate Program.

Postdocs

Postdoctoral research positions are available depending on funding levels.

  1. Dear Dr. Delwiche,

My name is Ari Otis, and I am a freshman BSCI major on the cell biology and genetics track. I am looking for an internship for the Spring semester, and I found your listing on BSOP. I am interested in this opportunity as I have a strong interest in genetics, particularly genetic engineering, and believe I have related qualifications. I have previous experience with microbial culturing, programming, and obtained a 5 on both the AP Biology and AP Computer Science tests.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Ari Otis
