Welcome Back to Campus!

The Bahá’í Chair for World Peace wants to welcome all of our UMD students back to campus for the spring semester! We have an exciting semester planned and want to invite you visit our office to learn more about how the Bahá’í Chair works to advance an integrative approach to world peace. We also invite you to attend our events this semester to participate in the conversation of building global peace.

We are starting off this semester with two events this February. On February 4th we are teaming up with Critical Race Initiative to bring you an event titled: Discarding Hate: A Conversation with Derek Black and Rebecca Shankman. Later in in the month, we are holding a lecture with Dr. Christina Getrich, who will be speaking on U.S. immigration enforcement and ethnoracial profiling in immigrant communities.

We will be bringing you two more events in April. The first, on April 6th, is a lecture by Professor Joseph Richardson titled “Life After the Gunshot: A Digital Storytelling Project on the Impact of Structural and Interpersonal Violence and the Healing Process for Young Black Men,” discussing the intersection of the gun violence, mass incarceration and trauma among violently injured young Black men and the ways structural and interpersonal affects their lives.

Also in April, we will be hosting a Conference on the Global Climate Crisis, where we will bring together leading scholars from a diverse range of disciplines to discuss real solutions to the devastating human impact on our environment. Join us in discovering solutions for the existential environmental threats facing our planet.

Be sure to follow us on social media @bahaichair and visit our website to stay updated on all we have planned for the semester. We wish all students a successful academic semester and hope to see you at our events!
