The Office of the Historian, U.S. House of Representatives is excited to announce an internship opportunity for Fall 2023. The Office of the Historian offers internships for undergraduate students, and the Office of Art and Archives offers internships for both undergraduate and graduate-level students. The offices are looking for candidates with a background in history, political science, library science, and art history. Their goal is to foster interest in the fields of public andinstitutional history, archival science, and museum studies; and to provide a behind-the-scenes experience for visiting students.
Interns may assist with the following tasks, including:
- historical and biographical research
- educational content creation and outreach
- archival and object processing
- object, photo, and record preservation
- curatorial content creation
- other special projects as assigned
The intern must be highly motivated, collaborative, and possess excellent research, communication, and computer skills. The ideal candidate will have research experience; an interest in political history, archives, visual materials; and good writing and outreach skills.
Availability
The Office is seeking an intern to work a minimum of 15 hours per week with a potential for an in-person, hybrid, or virtual schedule. This internship is unpaid; however, interns may work with the intern coordinator to accommodate scheduling relating to potential academic or work requirements.
Internships may be available for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The selection process is highly competitive.
