BSOS Students,
Are you thinking about adding or changing your major? Here’s an overview of the process to help you get started:
How to Initiate the Request:
- Log into TerpEngage and submit a request to add or change your major.
- Once your request is submitted, an outline of tasks you need to complete will appear in TerpEngage. Make sure to review these tasks carefully.
Things to Consider:
- If you are unsure about adding or changing your major, we encourage you to meet with your current college advising office to discuss the logistics and explore your options.
- Part of the process for adding or changing a major includes submitting a graduation plan, which will outline your path to completing degree requirements.
LEP Majors:
- Psychology and Criminology & Criminal Justice (CCJS) are Limited Enrollment Programs (LEP). This means that in order to apply, you must first complete the required gateway courses.
Adding a Second Major or Degree:
- Students wishing to add a second major or degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Economics, Government & Politics, or Psychology must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- The departments of African American and Africana Studies, Anthropology, Geographical Sciences, Hearing and Speech Sciences, and Sociology will admit students as double majors on a case-by-case basis.
Credit Requirements:
- For a Dual Degree, students are required to complete a minimum of 150 credits.
- For a Double Major, students must complete at least 120 credits.
Special Cases:
- Students on academic probation, dismissal, or other designated student populations will be required to schedule an appointment with an advisor to process the change.
Processing Time:
- Please note that a major change or the addition of a second major may take approximately 15-20 business days to process.
If you have any questions or need guidance, you can schedule an appointment with an academic advisor who can assist you with this process.
