Government Affairs Intern: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist our government affairs team. This intern will gain valuable experience in various areas, including legislative tracking, report writing and committee support, while actively participating in the legislative process and advocacy efforts. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow within a dynamic environment to support Maryland’s business community.

Job Details:

  • Pay: $18 an hour
  • Location: 60 West St Ste 100, Annapolis, MD 21401
  • Position Dates:  December 2024 – April 2025
  • Hours: 2-3 days a week, 22-25 hours per week (prefer Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule, in-person)

Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in public policy, political science, economics, business or other related field.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal, research, writing, communications skills.
  • Solid organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact in collaborative environments.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort with Microsoft SharePoint, Excel and Word.
  • Desire to learn more about the legislative process and advocacy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing support to the government affairs team in order to provide timely and accurate reports, position papers, testimony, legislative-related documents and correspondence to legislators, members and other constituency groups.
  • Tracking legislation and amendments moving through the legislative process.
  • Supporting the Legislative, and other policy committees of the Maryland Chamber with regard to preparing, updating, and maintaining committee lists, agendas, meeting notices, RSVPs, materials and correspondence.
  • Aid in database management.
  • Assisting other departments within the organization, which may include social media and communications work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
