What Firms are Saying About AI and Interviews
Bain and McKinsey both shared a perspective on AI with MC over the past two weeks on AI. The bottom line? Students are over-using AI for prep (and for thinking). MC recommends students think of AI as a tool that is similar to a book – it provides information, but not preparation. Students need real practice with humans now more than ever. Here’s how…

Get Resume Ready

  • Students need outstanding resumes that are balanced and data-rich. AI-generated resumes often lack voice and impact — and recruiters can tell. Download our resume template – pay attention to the notes more than the order of sections.
  • Access UMD, BSOS sample and resume tips.
  • If students use AI as a starting point, we advise them to revise at least 20% to reflect their authentic tone and experience – and to remember that AI doesn’t assess what is missing.

Learn Case Theory

  • LinkedIn Learning: Video lessons, drills, and case walkthroughs.
  • Complete cases one paper while watching an expert walkthrough as a first attempt at a case interview

Mock Interviews

  • Students should go through mock case interviews out loud and with a partner to provide muscle memory for both in person and online interviews. Check UMD’s Terrapins Connect for alumni partners.
  • Have them both give and receive cases when they mock. This will grow their understanding of what is expected of interviewers.
  • Use the MC Case Library – updated with new cases and solutions for 2025 recruitment.

When Will Interviews Happen? 2–4 weeks after application deadlines. Most firms send pre-screeners right after apps are due.

Firms Are Returning to In-Person Interviews. Confirmed: McKinsey is moving nearly all 2nd rounds in person. Students should prep both virtually and in person to build muscle memory in both settings.
