The Social Media Corps (SMC) summer fellowship program is back! Applications are due June 14, 2024 and this virtual program runs 7/8/24 to 7/31/24. Applications are available here.

AADHum’s SMC program trains undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows to produce digital artifacts for social media. Over the course of the summer participants will learn to contextualize social media participation as part of an ever-growing digital and data storytelling ecosystem.

This arts and humanities initiative emphasizes critical making, closely aligning with AADHum’s mission to extend conceptual learning opportunities into material practices. At the end of the program, participants will have a functional digital media portfolio and a kit of digital media storytelling tools to take into their future work as active and innovative scholars.

Participants explore how digital design and critical thinking work together to support scholarly and creative research communities, learning to identify, characterize, and share humanities arguments derived from live events and online discourse. In the course of developing public-facing scholarly communication strategies, participants increase their capacity to actively and productively engage online conversation with various scholarly communities.

That in mind, SMC participants also explore social media history and ethics, and share best practices around privacy, safety, consent, and social media boundaries. This year’s program will be facilitated by our own Dr. Liz Alexander and AADHum post-bacc fellow Katelin Ten.
