Applicants should have a Master’s degree, or higher, in the field of behavioral or social sciences or related disciplines appropriate to the position, including psychology, social psychology, criminology, education, criminal justice, sociology, or security studies.

POSITION DUTIES
In this position, the selectee will serve as a Social Science Research Specialist (SSRS). Typical work assignments could include:

  • Apply existing behavioral and social science research principles, concepts, and methods to execute research tasks under the direction of senior staff, to include identification of study samples, drafting of coding and survey instruments, collecting and analyzing data and other information, documenting the research process, conducting literature reviews, and drafting sections of reports.
  • Utilize conventional research techniques to identify pertinent data in scientific literature, government reports, news media, Internet sites, and other information systems on targeted violence, threat assessment, terrorism, and criminal behaviors.
  • Additional research tasks may include creation of study data files in statistical software, data entry, and execution of descriptive statistical functions, execution of statistical analyses, and interpretation and analysis of data.
  • Regularly travel to provide briefings and presentations to public safety professionals to assist with the development of behavioral threat assessment programs and guidance for violence prevention.
  • Assisting with information sharing initiatives and consultation to provide guidance to public safety professionals regarding complex cases and policy for behavioral threat assessment.
