Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to lead data-driven research initiatives aimed at improving educational practices. This position involves working with a diverse array of educational data types, coordinating research collaborations, supporting the integration of research insights into innovative educational products and interventions, and exploring cutting-edge technologies, including generative AI, to enhance educational research and practice. The candidate will oversee the collection, management, and analysis of complex educational data from multiple sources, including classroom recordings, administrative datasets, and proprietary learning tools. Additionally, the Data Analyst will help translate research findings into actionable tools and products, working closely with software developers, educational partners, and researchers.
Primary Responsibilities:
Data Management & Coordination (25%):
- Coordinate the collection, storage, and organization of sensitive educational data, ensuring compliance with all data privacy regulations.
- Oversee data access and sharing, manage permissions, and handle data cleaning and preprocessing.
- Implement robust data storage, access control, and anonymization protocols.
- Serve as the main point of contact for external data vendors and research partners, ensuring effective collaboration.
Data Analysis & Research Support (25%):
- Lead in-house data analysis efforts with statistical and machine learning models to analyze multimodal educational data (e.g., classroom recordings, student performance data) and perform predictive modeling.
- Investigate and apply generative AI techniques for data annotation, feature extraction, and innovative educational interventions.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior researchers and support the broader research team in using advanced data techniques.
- Perform code reviews, develop data pipelines, and optimize computational workflows.
Product Development Support (25%):
- Collaborate with software developers to translate research insights into product-ready features, such as automated feedback tools for educators, potentially leveraging generative AI technologies.
- Support randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and other intervention studies, ensuring smooth execution and rigorous evaluation.
Dissemination & Stakeholder Engagement (25%):
- Contribute to the preparation of research papers, reports, and presentations for academic and non-academic audiences.
- Communicate findings to diverse stakeholders, including school district leaders, funding agencies, and ed-tech partners.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large datasets and conducting advanced data analyses.
- Expertise in data analysis and machine learning, with experience applying these techniques in an educational context preferred.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with experimental design and causal inference methodologies, particularly in educational contexts.
- Familiarity with or interest in applying generative AI techniques in educational contexts is a plus.
- Experience in project management and collaboration in a research or academic setting.
- Excellent communication skills, passion for educational research, and a desire to contribute to impactful educational research.
