
Project Manager
The University of Maryland, College Park seeks a skilled project manager to support the newly established Center for Educational Data Science and Innovation (EDSI). This is an excellent opportunity to support the administrative operations of a cutting-edge research center at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and education.

The Center for Educational Data Science and Innovation, housed within the College of Education, is dedicated to advancing research and practice at the nexus of data science, AI, and education. EDSI’s mission encompasses:
- Accelerating cutting-edge research leveraging data science and AI to address critical issues in education and advance education equity and effectiveness.
- Bridging educators, researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to promote evidence-based, ethical, and responsible use of data and AI in education.
- Transforming education systems to achieve greater equity, efficiency, and effectiveness for all students through innovative technological advancements and policy solutions.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Faculty Director, the project manager will support both the administrative and research components of EDSI. Given EDSI’s recent launch, this position’s responsibilities will evolve as the center grows and expands. This is an on-site, 12-month position classified as a Faculty Specialist at UMD. Initial appointment is 1 year and renewable.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the logistical aspects of EDSI’s research projects, such as submitting IRB protocols and district research applications, hiring and overseeing local staff members, conducting site visits, and writing research briefs, to ensure efficient project management and timely deliverables.
- Coordinate with partnering institutions, school districts, policymakers, and industry leaders to facilitate EDSI’s projects and initiatives, such as the MPowering Teachers automated feedback system, the computer science education research initiative, and building benchmark datasets for AI and education research.
- Facilitate developing and implementing EDSI’s events, workshops, training programs and professional development programs.
- Assist in cultivating relationships with potential funders and partners to support the center’s financial stability and growth, such as facilitating proposal writing.
- Support internal and external communications, including website content, reports, and promotional materials.
- Support the Faculty Director and other affiliated faculty members in preparing grant proposals and managing awarded grants.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Education, Economics, Data Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in research administration, project management, or similar roles, preferably in an academic or research institution.
- Strong understanding of the K-12 education sector and familiarity with or willingness to learn data science and AI applications in education. Prior experience as an educator is strongly preferred.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in grant administration and familiarity with federal and private funding processes.
- Proficiency in using project management tools, data analysis software, and office productivity suites.
- Commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in education.
