The Department of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a full-time faculty member in the tenure stream at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the area of social epidemiology (including, but not limited to, research on health equity, discrimination, neighborhood environments, social policies, religion, and the criminal legal system). The Department of Epidemiology is one of seven academic departments in the School of Public Health, a vibrant community of students, educators, researchers, collaborators, and leaders. We are especially interested in expanding the Department of Epidemiology’s commitment to use science and data to push and impact policy.
Applicants should hold a doctorate in epidemiology or a related social science discipline and be interested in building partnerships across disciplines within the University. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching, research, and service. They should demonstrate leadership and collaboration and have potential for external funding (at the assistant rank) or evidence of external funding (at the associate or full professor ranks). Salary and rank are commensurate with background/experience. In addition to the qualifications above, appointment at the Associate Professor level requires five years of experience and demonstrated scholarly productivity, including teaching, funded research, and extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals. Appointment at the Professor level requires ten or more years of experience and demonstrated scholarly productivity, including teaching, funded research, and extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals.
The candidate may be interested in developing a research program focused on social epidemiology broadly or in the context of any particular subfield of epidemiology. Research areas of particular interest to the department include climate change, cardiovascular epidemiology, public health nutrition and food policy, reproductive and perinatal epidemiology, and substance use. The candidate will be expected to teach in our graduate or undergraduate programs.
