Position Description

The Department of Sociology at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in the study of health, health inequality, and/or medical sociology. Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 – $14,250 per month on a 9-month basis ($90,000 – $128,250 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Summary: The Department of Sociology at New Mexico State University (NMSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology, effective Fall Semester 2025. The primary area of research specialization is open. Methodologically, a specialization in computational methods is required. The candidate is expected to teach courses in their substantive area(s) of focus as well as computational methods courses as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program that includes seeking external funding. We encourage candidates to demonstrate an interest in developing a research agenda that involves issues of the desert Southwest and Border Region. The candidate will be expected to teach online and on-campus undergraduate and graduate courses that meet the needs of the department. The standard teaching load is 2/3. The Department of Methodology is a leading centre for research and education in social science research methods. The Department has a thriving and diverse interdisciplinary research culture, with its members advancing research in core social science disciplines as well as in research methodology and applied data science. It leads the provision of research methods education to students across the range of disciplines at LSE (including Psychology, Political Science, International Relations, Management, Development Studies, Social Policy, Media & Communications, Geography & Environment, Sociology, and others). Data science is a current area of growth and innovation. The Department is recruiting an Assistant Professor with expertise in Qualitative Research Methodology.

The post holder will contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in outstanding teaching as instructed by the Head of Department, and participating in the School and wider Department activities.

Candidates should have completed a PhD by the post start date and have research expertise in a relevant social science discipline and in qualitative research methodology. They should have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications and a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications. They should have the ability to offer high quality teaching of a range of qualitative research methods to multi-disciplinary groups of students, and the potential to add one or more new postgraduate methods courses that complement our current offerings. They should have excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to place their specialist work within a broader social science context.

Main Purpose of Job
The Data Analyst provides support to the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (the Office) with the implementation of the Center of Excellence (COE). Within the Office, the COE will consist of the Crisis Intervention Team Center of Excellence (CITCE) and the Maryland Behavioral Health and Public Safety Center of Excellence (BHPS-COE). The Analyst will collaborate and work within a team that includes a Law Enforcement Coordinator, Mental Health Coordinator, Policy & Advocacy Coordinator, and members of the Office’s Criminal Justice Programs. The COE team will work closely with Crisis Intervention Teams, Behavioral Health Authorities, Public Safety, and other agencies throughout the state involved in the implementation of Senate Bill 305 (2020), House Bill 1018 (2022) and Senate Bill 857 (2021).

The Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Policy and Data Analyst (BJAG) provides support to the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP) with data analysis and implementation of funding under the BJAG Program.

Administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, BJAG is a federal-state-local partnership enabling communities to target resources to their most pressing local needs. BJAG is used broadly for law enforcement, prosecution, indigent defense, courts, prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, planning evaluation and technology, mental health services, and crime victim and witness programs.

This position will collect and analyze data and write empirical reports based on such data and develop short and long-term program strategies and serve as a member of the team to support implementation.
