Social Science Research Analyst | NIJ

Social Science Research Analyst

NIJ is seeking a Social Science Research Analyst (GS-13) to: 

  • Serve as a Social Science Research Analyst in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of Research, Evaluation, Forensics & Technology (OREFT), Office of Criminal Justice Systems (OCJS). 
  • Provide scientific oversight of a research and evaluation portfolio in NIJ’s Office of Criminal Justice Systems (OCJS) including a variety of program grants, research-based grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for a significant segment of a social science or program area with a focus on corrections, policing, courts, and/or the criminal justice system, and related content areas. 
  • Perform analytical research, evaluation, program development, and other tasks in furtherance of portfolios on the criminal justice system. 
  • Develop, implement, analyze, and disseminate a range of extramural and intramural social science research and evaluation projects that employ different research methods.

George Mason Research Assistant Position

Researchers at George Mason are working on a large experimental policy evaluation study. This opportunity is open to MA and PhD students. The team hopes to start the position in mid-January (pending paperwork) and conduct interviews and observations for two to three months. The position pays $36/hour. As the research evolves, there may be an opportunity for an extension of the position.

The selected individual(s) will work with Dr. David Weisburd at George Mason and Dr. Preeti Chauhan from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a Mason post-doctoral fellow, and research assistants on a project evaluating a novel place-based intervention in Maryland – the Safer Stronger Together (SST) Initiative. The SST Initiative is a unique multi-government sector (i.e., criminal justice, juvenile justice, and child welfare) approach to coordinating resources for young people and their families with multi-system involvement and high resource needs. The research team will be evaluating the impact of the intervention on social problems and crime at the street-segment level. The RA will assist with conducting on-site systematic physical observations in three Maryland cities, administering surveys to residents, interviewing staff from the three government agencies, and performing other tasks as needed.

Postdoctoral Fellowship | UMSSW

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Research to Improve the Quality and Diversity of the Teacher Pipeline

The University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) grant-funded project. Scholars who have completed a Ph.D. in education or a related field and have strong quantitative methodological skills are invited to apply to work on cutting edge research and development to advance the understanding of the incentives, pathways, and obstacles for high school graduates entering the teaching workforce. This project is a research partnership with the Maryland Higher Education Commission and researchers at the University Maryland campuses in Baltimore, Baltimore County, and College Park. The research will inform policies to improve the quality and diversity of the teacher pipeline in Maryland. The anticipated start date of this appointment will be summer 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct statistical analyses using data from Maryland’s state longitudinal data system, a multi-sector linked longitudinal data system.
  • Collaborate on scholarly dissemination of findings related to the teaching pipeline (e.g., conference presentations and peer reviewed journal articles).
  • Support dissemination activities to foster translation of research findings to practice (e.g., practitioner focused research briefs).
  • Work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary and multi-site team involving researchers from diQerent disciplinary traditions as well as state agencies, university administrators, school districts, and public school teachers.

This postdoctoral fellowship will be principally on site in the Baltimore region.

Assistant Professor – Criminology and Law Studies | Marquette University

Assistant Professor – Criminology and Law Studies

The Department of Social and Cultural Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position beginning in August 2025. We seek applicants to teach courses in the Criminology and Law Studies, BA and in Criminal Justice Data Analytics, MS programs, and be part of a university-wide interdisciplinary community to advance Data Science at Marquette University. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses on Advanced Quantitative Research Methods and Advanced Social Statistics and undergraduate courses in their area of expertise on a rotating basis. Experience teaching courses in an online format is considered a plus.

Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in advanced quantitative methods such as structural equation modeling, panel/multi-level data modeling, propensity score matching, machine learning, or similar. Research specialization is open, although research interests in cybercrime, big data, and artificial intelligence is considered a plus. Applicants should also demonstrate excellence in teaching with a clear commitment to the teacher-scholar model including undergraduate and graduate education, evidence of scholarly productivity in peer-reviewed journals, and a clear research agenda. A Ph.D. in the social sciences with a strong emphasis on quantitative methodology is required by the time of appointment. Position Summary
The Department of Criminal Justice at Austin Peay State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Within this setting, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology provides a comprehensive examination of justice, crime, and victimization. The program offers both an in-person and fully online Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology that enrolls approximately 900 students across all campuses and a minor with 175 students. The department also houses an in-person and online Master of Science (MS) program in Criminal Justice and Criminology with concentrations in criminal justice/criminology and cybercrime.
