Department Information
Within this setting, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology provides a comprehensive examination of justice, crime, and victimization. The program offers both an in-person and fully online Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology that enrolls approximately 900 students across all campuses and a minor with 175 students. The department also houses an in-person and online Master of Science (MS) program in Criminal Justice and Criminology with concentrations in criminal justice/criminology and cybercrime. Further, we offer an Executive MS program in Criminal Justice for law enforcement professionals, which permits them to complete POST-certified coursework in flexible modules. Finally, the department offers an online Graduate Certificate in Cybercrime.

Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the assistant professor position requires teaching some combination of courses within our undergraduate and graduate degree programs, developing a sustainable and productive program of research, providing service to the department, college, and university, as well as engaging in student success and professional development initiatives. The Department of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a full-time faculty member in the tenure stream at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the area of social epidemiology (including, but not limited to, research on health equity, discrimination, neighborhood environments, social policies, religion, and the criminal legal system). The Department of Epidemiology is one of seven academic departments in the School of Public Health, a vibrant community of students, educators, researchers, collaborators, and leaders. We are especially interested in expanding the Department of Epidemiology’s commitment to use science and data to push and impact policy.

Applicants should hold a doctorate in epidemiology or a related social science discipline and be interested in building partnerships across disciplines within the University. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching, research, and service. They should demonstrate leadership and collaboration and have potential for external funding (at the assistant rank) or evidence of external funding (at the associate or full professor ranks). Salary and rank are commensurate with background/experience. In addition to the qualifications above, appointment at the Associate Professor level requires five years of experience and demonstrated scholarly productivity, including teaching, funded research, and extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals. Appointment at the Professor level requires ten or more years of experience and demonstrated scholarly productivity, including teaching, funded research, and extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The candidate may be interested in developing a research program focused on social epidemiology broadly or in the context of any particular subfield of epidemiology. Research areas of particular interest to the department include climate change, cardiovascular epidemiology, public health nutrition and food policy, reproductive and perinatal epidemiology, and substance use. The candidate will be expected to teach in our graduate or undergraduate programs.

About the Crime Prevention Lab
The Northeastern Crime Prevention Lab (CPL) has rapidly grown since its founding in 2023. We seek an Assistant Research Professor to join our team and help further develop our portfolio of research projects. Active funded projects include collaborations with Kansas City (MO) Police Department, Colorado Springs (CO) Police Department, the City of Paterson (NJ), the Mecklenburg County (NC) Department of Public Health, and the New Jersey State Police. The Assistant Research Professor will work with the Senior Leadership to assist the CPL in maintaining existing partnerships and nurturing new opportunities

Responsibilities:
Lead large-scale research projects and develop externally-funded projects: The Assistant Research Professor will contribute to the current funded-projects of the CPL. This will involve taking a leading role in data collection, database maintenance, data analysis, and report writing. The Assistant Research Professor will further work with CPL directors to identify and compete for funded research opportunities.

Develop community partnerships across sectors and jurisdictions: In addition to developing the externally funded research projects the Assistant Research Professor will nurture the current partnerships and seek out additional collaborative opportunities. These applied partnerships take time and effort to establish and retain, and they are essential to the CPL mission and offer potential for visibility and sustainable growth.

Supervise students and Staff on Evaluation Projects: The Assistant Research Professor will supervise undergraduate and Graduate students on multi-generational research teams. They will also supervise staff on research teams.

Teach 2 classes per year in the area of crime analysis and geographic information systems: The Assistant Research Professor will contribute to the developing crime analysis and computational sciences programs by teaching relevant classes to undergraduate, graduate, and practitioner students.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice or related fields in hand by the appointment start date is required.
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis and geographic information systems.
  • Experience using R, Stata, and ArcGIS Pro software.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working with diverse student populations and/or in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.
  • Strong experience of leading research teams.
  • Strong track record in writing and securing research grants.
  • Strong track record in published peer-reviewed journal articles.

The College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a distinguished population scientist at the rank of Professor/Full Professor and Director of the Population Research Center (PRC), one of the nation’s premier NICHD-funded population centers. The position begins Fall of academic year 2025-26, although the start date for appointment as PRC director is open to negotiation. We seek applicants who have made major contributions to the development of innovative and pathbreaking research that speaks to critical population problems confronting the United States and the global community, have an excellent track record of extramural grant support (e.g., NIH) for their research, and are committed to the development of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and training of an outstanding community of faculty and students. Tenure home will be based in one of the social science departments within the college (e.g., Department of Sociology, Economics, Psychology), and duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service to the department, college, and university. Postdoctoral Position | Wayne State University

Summary
The Detroit Partnership for Education Equity & Research at Wayne State University is seeking a candidate with a strong background in qualitative and/or mixed research methods for a postdoctoral research associate. The candidate will work closely with Sarah Lenhoff, Ph.D., in part on a research study sponsored by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) Equity Initiative and the W.T. Grant Foundation.

The study explores links between housing policy and educational opportunities by examining the implementation of the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) in the Detroit neighborhood of Corktown and its impact on school diversity and community integration. The research team includes co-principal investigators Kara Finnigan, University of Michigan; DeMarcus Jenkins, University of Pennsylvania; and Huriya Jabbar, University of Southern California.

The postdoctoral fellow will collaborate with Lenhoff, research faculty, and doctoral research assistants at Wayne State University, and the broader research team. The position can begin as soon as January 1, 2025, or in Spring or Summer 2025. We strongly prefer candidates who are based in or near Detroit, Michigan. If the candidate is not based in the Detroit area, they will be expected to travel to Detroit regularly for field work and research presentations. This is a two-year position with an annual base salary of $66,000.

Required qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree in education policy, sociology, or a related social science field is required, as is a developing record of relevant publications.
  • The successful candidate should have excellent qualitative data analysis skills, including experience working with qualitative coding software, extensive experience and excellent knowledge of education policy, and an interest in desegregation and/or housing policy.
  • The candidate should also have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in social network analysis is especially desired, as is experience working on mixed-methods research teams.
