Thank you for your interest in working with the Dodson group! You can learn more about our research by viewing our publications here. Please browse through descriptions of our research on Prof. Dodson’s faculty page or here to determine if your interests match well with ours before contacting us as described below.

General advice for all levels: please don’t use ChatGPT to generate an email based on content farmed from our website. We’re more interested in genuine connections based on real enthusiasm and we can tell when it has been written by AI.

Postdocs

Current or recent PhD students interested in pursuing postdoctoral research with the Dodson group can send their CV to Prof. Dodson in an email along with a description of how their prior research overlaps with ours and how they anticipate contributing to our research program.

Graduate Students

Prospective students interested in pursuing doctoral degrees at the University of Maryland can join the Dodson research group after being admitted to either the Chemistry or the Chemical Physics graduate degree programs and participating in rotations with one of those programs. Admit decisions are made at the department level (i.e. you cannot be admitted directly to join the Dodson group), but applicants are encouraged to mention their interest in our research program in their application. More information about these programs and our admissions process can be found here for Chemistry and here for Chemical Physics. We generally have 1-2 open positions in our group any given year, but you may contact Prof. Dodson directly to learn specifically which projects are available.

Current UMD graduate students are encouraged to rotate with our group, and can reach out to Prof. Dodson directly to set up a meeting.

Undergraduate Students

Current undergraduate students at the University of Maryland who are interested in gaining research experience at the interface between chemistry, physics, engineering, and math should contact Prof. Dodson using this form.

We do not currently have any positions available for high school students.
