How We Work

Equity Constellation Senate

The “Senate” of Equity Constellation (EC) would be made up of the EC Core Leadership Team and the EC “Members-at-large.” Idea generation, big picture decision making, and priority setting would happen through voting within this senate. Planning and execution of EC Activities is the primary responsibility of the EC Core Leadership Team (e.g. EC officers). We intend for senate positions to be primarily held by undergraduate and graduate students.

Core Leadership Team

  • Communication Officer: This officer will be responsible for: (1) Communicating with partner student organizations within Physics and Astronomy, (2) Raising awareness and visibility of EC and EC events/activities, (3) coordinating with managing officer to recruit students for roles within the organization (e.g. officers, apprentices, and liaisons) and (4) Striving to ensure that EC opportunities transparently and equitable communicated to appropriate audiences.
  • Website Officer: This officer will be responsible for: (1) Starting up and maintaining a website for EC, (2) Ensuring that resources on website align with our core principles, and (3) Providing timely information about upcoming EC events and activities.
  • Events & Activity Officer: This officer will be responsible for: (1) Coordinating logistics of events hosted by EC, (2) Contributing to the brainstorming of EC events/activities,
  • Managing Officer: This officer will be responsible for: (1) Making sure elections happen in a timely and fair way, (2) Making sure Access fellows are selected in a timely and fair way, (3) Scheduling and setting agendas for Senate meetings, and leadership team meetings.
  • Officer Apprentices: Early career undergraduates that are interested in partnering with an E. C. Officer to learn more about how to do the responsibilities of that position.

Members-at-large

Equity Constellation “senators” that serve as liaisons to other student-organizations. These Liaisons would get one “vote” per organization in decision-making within Equity Constellation. We imagine that each student organization would choose a dedicated person for this role for a given semester.
