NOAASatHack student application now open!

The NOAASatHack planning team invites you to share with your students the details of the NOAA Satellites Hackathon (NOAASatHack), an exciting virtual competition taking place in October 2025 for students to learn about the many uses of satellite data. The challenge for this event is for students to develop a public awareness campaign about an environmental hazard by connecting NOAA satellite data to neighborhood level impacts. Coding knowledge is not required and training sessions to expand students’ remote sensing knowledge and technical skills will be provided ahead of the competition.

We are now accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students of any major and encourage you to share our event with the students in your program and more broadly at your university.

Here’s what the students can expect during the NOAASatHack in October 2025:

🛰️  Oct 6-10: Training Days – background info and coding exercises

🤝  Oct 10: Social Hour – network with other participants

👥  Oct 14: Team Formation Day – create teams and assign topics

💻  Oct 15-21: Competition – one week to develop project
