Learning Outcomes

As a result of this course, students will gain hands-on research experience to design experiments, implement a study, and evaluate data from the studies. To achieve these goals, students are assigned to work together with a PhD Graduate Student under supervision of the Professor of the laboratory.

Grading

The final grade is calculated based on attendance, research progress and participation, oral and poster presentation(s), and the written report with equal weights. Optionally, Progress Grade (IPG) will be assigned for continuing research, which will then be converted to a grade upon completion of the course (2 semesters of research).

Class Policy

Attendance is required and is monitored. Make-up labs are not allowed (except in the case of excused absence).

Laboratory Safety

You must read, understand, and sign the Department of Chemistry GWU Laboratory Safety Rules and comply with them. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your removal from the laboratory. Uncompleted experiments will be treated as unexcused absences equivalent of zero (0) points for the experiment.

Academic Integrity

You are required to comply with the UMD Code of Academic Integrity, which is available here.  Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Incidents of academic misconduct will be reported for further disciplinary action.
