In the spirit of warmer weather, QUEST students are getting active. Besides going to the gym, QUESTees are putting their team skills to use by participating in intramural volleyball!
The current members of the QUEST team are pictured above in their QUEST gear: Top row left to right – Sai Sakhamuri, Rajit Mukhopadhyay, Matthew Weirich, Arav Patel, Avi Komarlingam, Jamil Takieddine. Bottom row left to right – Angie McGonigle, Adelina Seck, Sam Yee.
Cohort 39, arguably the best Cohort, created a volleyball team in Fall 2022, and the team has not only stayed together, but grown! With a total of 10 people signed up, the team has gotten close through games and practices. The team originated in office hours during BMGT/ENES190H, with the founding members, Adelina Seck, Jamil Takieddine, and Rajit Mukhopadhyay, discussing their athletic interests with Professor Armstrong.
When the team started, it was already known that the cohort shirt would be the team’s uniform, as that made so much sense. It also let any opponents immediately know that this team had members from the best honors program at UMD. They also created an awesome team name, the 39 Qties.
39 Qties member Annaika Taneja says that “having a cohort volleyball team is a great way to get to know my fellow 39-ers better. I see them in class every week but it’s so nice to meet and spend time with them in a non-academic way.”
She expands, stating “I want our whole cohort to be involved on this team or different teams! I think it’d even be cool if we could have an intramural QUEST volleyball competition. Fair warning though, 39 Qties will be the winner.”
Overall, we love the enthusiasm and spirit the 39 Qties have and wish them luck during the rest of the intramural season! If any other QUESTees are interested in playing volleyball, each semester QSocial does intramural sports sign ups, so they should look out for that!
The team showed their skill at their match this past Thursday, where they reached the playoffs. When asked about their future plans – all of the team responded with “Co-Ed Group B Champs”! We certainly believe that they will achieve those dreams soon.
The team show their dedication to the team by scheduling extra practices and going out of their way to practice during breaks in BMGT/ENES438A.
We wish their team the best of luck as they move towards the playoffs!
