Use It or Lose It

Don’t Lose Any Leave

Employees, now is the time to start planning to use any annual or personal leave you may be in jeopardy of losing. Employees eligible to earn leave may carry over a maximum of 50 days or 400 hours of annual leave into the calendar year. This maximum will be prorated for part-time employees working 50% or more. Additionally, employees are granted three personal days each calendar year these personal days cannot be carried forward into the next calendar. Therefore, any annual leave exceeding 400 hours and/or any unused personal days will be forfeited on January 6, 2018.

The forfeited personal leave is contributed to the USM Leave Reserve Fund (LRF). All Exempt and Nonexempt Staff employees on Regular Status, working 50% or more, who become temporarily medically disabled or are eligible for Parental Leave and who meet qualifying criteria are eligible for paid leave through the LRF.

For more information on annual leave and the leave reserve fund please see the Board of Regents Policies:

2017 Wellness Plan Activities

Don’t Forget Your Wellness Plan Activities

The voluntary 2017 Wellness Program is available to all faculty, staff, graduate assistants, and spouses enrolled in the State of Maryland medical plans. Both you and if applicable, a covered spouse would need to individually complete the activities for the copay incentive to apply to each of you.

If you or your covered spouse choose to participate in the Wellness Program, you will be asked to complete a short, voluntary heath risk assessment or “HRA” that asks a series of questions about your health-related activities and behaviors. Additionally, if you have not done previously done so, you will be asked to select a primary care physician (PCP) and possibly complete any age/gender appropriate preventive screenings for the plan year.

You are not required to complete the HRA or to participate in the other wellness activities. However, those who complete all of the wellness program activities will receive the following incentives for the remainder of the 2017 plan year: Continue reading
