The Bahá’í Chair for World Peace is delighted to welcome all new and returning students to campus. We have a very exciting year planned and invite you to stop by our office to learn more about us and our program’s focus on advancing interdisciplinary discourse on global peace.

Our program is designed to explore some of the most important and complex issues faced by our nation and the world. We are interested in finding solutions to the social problems that are obstacles to the creation of a more peaceful world.

In September we are hosting a two day conference Women in the World: Time for a New Paradigm for Peace. The conference feature some fantastic speakers and they will discuss the obstacles women still face, but also the progress that women have made, and how this progress contributes to the creation of more peaceful and prosperous societies.

Our annual lecture scheduled for October 10, 2019 features Professor Alondra Nelson and is titled “Even a Moon Shot Needs a Flight Plan: Genetics and Ethics in the Obama Administration” The lecture is free and open to everyone. We hope you will join us.

In October we have two further events featuring speakers from the UMD Campus, Professor Sacoby Wilson and Professor Kevin Roy.

Hoda Mahmoudi, Chair and Research Professor 

Professor Hoda Mahmoudi holds the Bahá’í Chair for World Peace at the University of Maryland. Dr. Mahmoudi develops a sound scientific basis for knowledge and strategies that explore the role of social actors and structures in removing obstacles to peace and creating paths to a better world.
