About: The Maryland Department of Health Public Health Workforce Development Internship  Program (PHWDIP) aims to bolster the public health workforce at the Maryland Department of  Health (MDH). The PHWDIP seeks to introduce students to roles within public health and  expose them to different subject areas. The practical experience will enhance and amplify the  knowledge that participating students have gained from their academic studies and prepare  them to enter the public health workforce. This social media toolkit provides content to help  spread the word and encourage students to apply for the program.

Eligibility: This program is currently open to undergraduate rising juniors and seniors  (completion of at least 60 credit hours) and graduate students enrolled at an accredited college  or university and in good academic standing. Recent graduates (from an undergraduate or  graduate program) may be accepted.

Compensation: Undergraduate students will be paid $16.50/hr; Graduate students will be paid  $19.50/hr

Timeline: The program will run for 10 weeks, from June 5 – August 13, 2024. The program is full time at a rate that averages up to 40 hours per week. Students can work a maximum of 400  hours during the 10 weeks.

The available internships are categorized by subject area: Behavioral Science, Community  Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Health Informatics, Health  Policy, Healthcare Administration, Infectious Diseases, and Public Health Communications.

Applicants may apply to more than one posting (subject area) for the program. Applicants will  be considered for all of the vacancies within the subject area that they apply to. Hiring  managers will contact candidates directly for interviews. Please note that application  submission does not guarantee an interview.
