Montgomery County Community Job Fair – Nov. 16th

The Maryland Department of Labor is partnering with the Universities at Shady Groves’ Center for Career Development and American Job Center to host a community job fair open to both students at USG and community members. Approximately 75 employers from diverse industries will be on site to meet future talent as well as a Resume Doctor and ASL interpreter. Bring your resumes, network with employers, and learn about different companies!

No pre-registration is required for students or community members to attend the job fair.

REMINDER: Fall 2023 Grad School Prep Series on Nov. 2nd!

UMBC-Shady Grove has collaborated with UMCP and colleagues from USG’s Center of Scholarships and the Macklin Center for Leadership and Communication to offer a Fall 2023 Grad School Prep Series open to ALL students at USG. This series will run the duration of the fall semester. Students should take advantage of the diverse workshops in this series to learn important tips and gain relevant insight as they prepare to research graduate program options and apply to graduate school.
 
Please see the attached flyer for workshop specifics! Students are encouraged to RSVP to attend workshops of interest ASAP.
The next workshop in the series, “Grad School: Where and How Do We Start?” will take place virtually on Thursday, November 2 from 12:30 – 1:30 pm.

Public Speaking VR Program at USG

Want to practice your public speaking skills using virtual reality? The Macklin Center and Priddy Library launched the Virtual Speech Virtual Reality Program at USG. The virtual reality interactive exercises include: leadership communication, essential public speaking, active listening skills, elevator pitch, job interview preparation, presenting with confidence, and much more!
Stop by the Priddy Library on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and the Macklin Center on Thursdays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm to practice your public speaking skills using a VR headset. Please refer to the attached flyer for all the details.

  4. Register for classes on November 9 (click here to view the Spring 2024 course schedule) We have organized the schedule by time as well–scroll through to the second page. Let us know if you like this organization!
    • Please note, the course format is included on the schedule. ONLINE means the class will be fully online but may have live components. BLENDED means the class will be in person for part of the time and will also have an asynchronous component. Most classes have returned to fully in-person.

The Legal Advocate works with three attorneys who represent survivors in all counties in Maryland, largely the Baltimore Metropolitan area. The Legal Advocate staffs the office in Towson and has extensive in-person and phone contact with survivors. The Advocate assists the attorneys in preparing cases, conducting intakes, and managing referrals to other resources.

2023 Navigating Your Federal Career: Expo for Students, Interns and Recent Grads

November 8 • 5:30pm – 8pm • 600 14th Street NW, 6th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005

The expo will feature representatives from federal agencies who can share internship and job opportunities with attendees, in addition to resources on finding their next career opportunity. Our program will also feature a keynote lecture from a senior U.S. Government official and a panel discussion about the Partnership’s Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program.
