The program will meet five times during the Spring 2025 semester (in the month of February and March) to practice and improve upon your oral communication skills. The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Pretrial Officer position. The Officer will be responsible for supervising a caseload of defendants referred to the Pretrial Division of the Department of Community Corrections for pretrial supervision by the Courts or the Office of the Loudoun County Magistrate, according to DCJS standards. This position requires regularly attending court proceedings, maintaining accurate automated case log notes and records, performing drug/alcohol testing, completing risk assessments, making/presenting recommendations to the Court for bond release, interviewing recently arrested individuals in custody, conducting criminal background checks and pretrial investigations.

Minimum Qualifications
The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field, and a minimum of two years of work-related experience within the criminal justice or counseling field.
The candidate must be able to work as part of a team within the Pretrial Division and with the entire Community Corrections Department. Spanish speaking preferred.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Successful candidate must undergo and complete a criminal background check. Annual DMV record check will be required.
Must be willing to supervise criminal defendants and perform occasional residential visits, some of whom may have an arrest history of violent crime. Prefer that the candidate have experience working with criminal justice-involved individuals and/or strong background/knowledge/education in substance abuse, addiction, mental health, domestic violence, and appropriate services/ treatments. Collecting samples for urinalysis and administration of alcohol breath tests is also required. Each Summer, the Ocean City, MD Police Department hires approximately 100 seasonal employees to assist with the busy Summer Resort.
We no longer have Seasonal Police Officer positions because the program has been discontinued, but we are offering civilian positions (Public Safety Officer).
Public Safety Officers are utilized as civilian support staff within the Patrol and Support Services Divisions.
Public Safety Officers assigned to Arrest and Detention are responsible for processing and custody of detainees, safety and security of the Public Safety facility, interaction with the general public and the courts.
Public Safety Officers assigned to Patrol Operations handle traffic control, parking enforcement, assist with transportation of arrestees, public safety needs at special events, and the enforcement of civil violations.
TESTING PROCESS:
In-Person – All testing will be completed on Saturday at the Ocean City Police Department. All applicants will complete a written examination. Police Officer applicant will then have to complete the physical abilities portion and interview. Public Safety Officer applicants will only have to complete an interview.
All police officer applicants must submit a signed physician’s waiver prior to completing the physical abilities test.
On-Line – If you’re unable to attend an in-person testing, you may complete the written examination on-line and have a virtual interview. In an effort to streamline our testing process and alleviate the financial burden of traveling for applicant testing, our written testing and interview will be conducted online. The written test is a minimal cost compared to traveling to take an in-person test, incurring lodging, meals, and other travel expenses. This will allow the applicant to take the online test at their location and time of choice. Upon successful completion of the written test and virtual interview, applicants will then be provided a background investigation packet to submit.
HIRING PROCESS:
Candidates must submit an application through Police App with preliminary background form attached, successfully complete a written examination, structured interview, physical abilities test (police officer applicants only), background investigation, and medical examination.

This position is located in the Criminal Investigations Division: Homicide/Robbery Unit. The purpose of the Investigative Assistant Intern is to provide direct assistance to the detectives in the Homicide/Robbery Unit, Burglary/Larceny Unit, Special Victims Unit and the General Assignment Unit.
Interns will be directly involved interviewing victims and witnesses in a variety of cases such as assaults, threats, missing persons, domestic assaults, larcenies and other property crimes
Interns will be provided with orientation and guidance on how to conduct these interviews and work on each case with the assigned detective
This internship will acquaint the student with the investigative process by actually being a part of the investigations
Interns will conduct interviews, document statements and provide input to the detectives on disposition of cases
An intern’s work may lead to identifying suspects to be prosecuted
Interns accepted for this assignment will complete the process with true investigative experience. The intern will develop strategies and make recommendations to the Detective and the intern will work closely with the Detectives throughout the investigative process. The Detectives will involve the intern in all phases of the investigation and treat them as colleagues.
