ICTS Internship Description: As a member of the ICTS team, you will have the opportunity to conduct fast-paced research on relevant topics of your choice. You will learn valuable life-long skills to improve your research, writing, and analysis that are applicable to the professional world. You can make your own schedule and are expected to work between 10-20 hours per week. The internship typically lasts the duration of an academic semester but exceptions can be made in certain circumstances.

Intern Duties: Conducting research on terrorism and counterterrorism; Monitoring regional insurgencies, ethnic conflicts and peace processes; Developing and maintaining a database on terrorism and regional developments; Compiling bibliographies, chronologies, and summarizing research materials as directed; Collecting and assembling data; Contributing to ICTS publications and reports by assisting with copy editing and proofreading; As well as providing a full range of administrative support. Interns will be assigned to an ASD specified team and will fulfill one or more of the following duties with the potential to take on additional responsibilities:

  • Support the Attempted Abductions Team by searching for attempts incidents online, through online news articles, law enforcement social networking sites, press releases on law enforcement websites, etc. and documenting the information for the analysts to follow up
  • Support the collection of nationwide Child Sex Trafficking trends that are tracked and maintained in several spreadsheets and/or internal documents
  • Support the collection and maintenance of the Recovery Services Team’s internal child sex trafficking resource directory
  • Assist the Sex Offender Tracking Team with efforts to update data associated with noncompliant sex offenders
  • Research assigned topics and assist with NCMEC data projects, including data entry and cleaning, qualitative data coding and other research tasks

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Completed two (2) years of college with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or related field
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale (3.5 GPA or higher preferred)
  • Research experience preferred, to include research analysis skills

The Office of Police Complaints (OPC) is an independent District of Columbia agency that receives, investigates, and resolves police misconduct complaints filed by the public against the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the D.C. Housing Authority Police Department (DCHAPD) officers. 

This is a developmental level position, responsible for performing the full range of investigative functions on assigned cases or portions of cases, routine in nature, from planning through fact finding to reporting the results of her/his investigations. Assignments typically involve subjects on which information is readily available, cases that involve straightforward issues or persons that are not controversial, and routine exchanges of factual information with other agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and conducts investigations of police misconduct complaints filed by the public, including complaints alleging harassment, the use of unnecessary or excessive force, the use of language or conduct that is insulting, demeaning, or humiliating, discriminatory treatment, failure to identify, failure to intervene, and retaliation. 

Plans investigations, determining the methods and procedures necessary to obtain essential information. Obtains necessary background information by reviewing all pertinent documents on file, including complaint forms, MPD records, medical records, photographs, and other materials. Documents all investigative steps and maintains detailed records regarding investigations.

Conducts complete and thorough interviews of complainants, witnesses, and officers to obtain factual statements and potential leads to other evidence. Makes incident site visits to locate and interview witnesses, examine the incident scene, take photographs, and/or prepare diagrams. 

Prepares detailed written reports summarizing the results of the investigation and analyzing the allegations in a complaint based on the evidence gathered. Maintains complaint files and enters data and investigative materials into the agency’s electronic complaint management system. 

Works with investigative supervisors or team leaders to revise and finalize reports, which are used by the agency’s Executive Director and Deputy Director, as well as members of the Police Complaints Board (PCB), which is OPC’s governing body, and complaint examiners.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Division of Parole and Probation Internship | Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services




The Maryland Division of Parole and Probation offers student internship positions through the State of Maryland for each academic semester, including the summer, for both graduate and undergraduate students.  These positions are volunteer (without compensation) but may be used for work-study credit.  Information about eligibility and the application process for student internship opportunities is set forth below.
Maryland Division of Parole and Probation has 36 internship sites available throughout Maryland. The internship will provide an opportunity for students to build their resume’ while learning how the Division of Parole and Probation operates daily in its supervision of over 40,000 probationers and parolees.  Interns will gain a unique and exciting view of the work and mission of the Division. Interns are required to complete internship hours based on the internship course syllabus at your institution. Interns will assist Parole and Probation Operational and Administrative staff in a variety of assignments, including conducting criminal record checks, familiarization with the Maryland Justice Reinvestment Act and how it applies to cases under Parole and Probation Supervision, familiarization with specialized caseloads to include: Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner, Violence Prevention Initiative, Sexual Offender, Mental Health, Veteran, and Interstate caseload, preparing documents for court and parole revocation hearings, interviewing supervisees, assisting with drug testing, developing case plans, analyzing records, and other case-related work.

The Supreme Court of the United States Police Department is currently seeking students for the Fall 2025 semester. If you are seeking a career in law enforcement, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn about federal law enforcement. Credit will be granted for this internship to eligible students through the CCJS department after the proper paperwork has been processed.

Intern’s duties include but are not limited to:
