County Executive Marc Elrich is seeking applicants to fill seven public vacancies on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission, including one position for a member of the Maryland bar who practices law in Montgomery County. Six incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
The 32-member Commission includes representatives of criminal justice agencies, local municipalities, judges, elected officials and the public-at-large. The Commission must evaluate the organization and adequacy of law enforcement and the administration of justice in the County.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for in-person meetings attended. Meetings must be held at least four times per year. The full Commission currently meets in-person (at the Executive Office Building Auditorium) with virtual option (via Microsoft Teams) every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November) at 7:30 AM on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Applicants of diverse, backgrounds, professions, genders, geography, abilities, ethnicities, and ages are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members must complete training on the Maryland Open Meetings Act, Montgomery County Ethics Law, and basic parliamentary procedure. The County Executive’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of individuals selected for appointment will be forwarded to the Council for confirmation.
