Quantum Symposium
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a Quantum Symposium on December 3rd – ‘Unlocking the Potential of Quantum Computing: A Symposium for the Quantum-Curious‘ – that USG is hosting on campus with our industry partner and sponsor, Westat. This is a chance to hear from those in industry who are applying quantum computing technology in their work, including in the areas of health, medicine, and cryptography. Students will gain critical insights as they prepare for their post-grad careers! This event is free.

AI Forum
On Dec. 9 we’re co-hosting, led by Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, an AI forum for business leaders and executives. While they are the primary audience for this event, students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend to gain exposure to AI and how businesses are including AI into their workflows. It will also be a good opportunity for students to build their professional networks. This event is free for students. They can learn more and register here.

There are two OIT job openings for students at the USG campus. Job descriptions & qualifications are listed below. Both roles are posted in Career Connector, and students can apply by emailing a resume and cover letter to mharchic@umd.edu by November 26, 2025.
The USG Scholarship Application is currently open for Spring 2026 award consideration! Students can apply before the priority deadline of November 30th or the final deadline of December 31st.
Students can also look towards their home institutions for additional financial aid opportunities as well as state-based aid through the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).
USG will also continue to provide food access resources throughout the year, including two free monthly food distributions as well as free snacks and toiletry items for students with USG IDs.

County Executive Marc Elrich is seeking applicants to fill seven public vacancies on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission, including one position for a member of the Maryland bar who practices law in Montgomery County. Six incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
The 32-member Commission includes representatives of criminal justice agencies, local municipalities, judges, elected officials and the public-at-large. The Commission must evaluate the organization and adequacy of law enforcement and the administration of justice in the County.
Members serve three-year terms without compensation but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for in-person meetings attended. Meetings must be held at least four times per year. The full Commission currently meets in-person (at the Executive Office Building Auditorium) with virtual option (via Microsoft Teams) every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November) at 7:30 AM on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Applicants of diverse, backgrounds, professions, genders, geography, abilities, ethnicities, and ages are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members must complete training on the Maryland Open Meetings Act, Montgomery County Ethics Law, and basic parliamentary procedure. The County Executive’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of individuals selected for appointment will be forwarded to the Council for confirmation. The firm is currently seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) Legal Assistant. This position is a great fit for Criminal Justice majors looking to gain hands-on experience in the legal field and get their foot in the door. No prior experience is required and while it is a full-time position, they are open to discussing scheduling options to best accommodate the right candidate.
