Critical Language Scholarship, Summer 2026

Would you like to study a critical language during summer 2026 – all expenses paid?

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, offers two opportunities to immerse yourself in critical language study!

(1) The CLS Overseas Institutes offer intensive and cultural immersion for these 12 languages abroad:

ARABIC – CHINESE – HINDI – INDONESIAN – JAPANESE – KOREAN – PERSIAN – PORTUGUESE – RUSSIAN – SWAHILI – TURKISH – URDU  

(2) The CLS Spark Virtual Institutes offer undergraduates the opportunity to study one of these four languages virtually:

ARABIC – CHINESE – JAPANESE – KOREAN – RUSSIAN

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens; currently enrolled freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students (note–grad students are ineligible for CLS Spark). A GPA of 3.2 or higher recommended; all majors are eligible.PLEASE NOTE: The CLS overseas program in Japanese requires two years of previous study by the start of the program. Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Russian require one year of study by the start of the program. The five CLS Spark programs are open to beginners. See here for details.

The Pre-Law Advising Office provides a wide range of services designed to support your journey:

Office Hours & How to Connect

The Pre-Law Advising Office is located in 0110 Hornbake Library South and open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • Drop-In Hours (Fall 2025): Mondays & Thursdays, 1:00–3:00 p.m.
    Drop-in sessions are 15-minute meetings designed to address quick or general questions.
  • Virtual Fridays: Advising is offered online every Friday.

The NCC is coordinating an FBI Experience Tour event at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Fri Oct 17, 2025 at 2:45 pm. The tour is self-guided but there will be docents who can answer questions throughout the tour.

This event is open to only active ASIS members (and their family members) and full-time students. All visitors must be U.S. citizens or valid green card holders, and the number of non-U.S. citizens will be limited.

The FBI requires we submit the following for all attendees:

  • Last Name
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Professional Affiliation
  • SSN
  • DOB
  • Citizenship
  • Country of Birth

1. Please download this Excel spreadsheet and complete the required information (include your email for follow-up NCC communications). Kids under the age of 16 don’t need to provide their SSN. There are two sheets–one for U.S. citizens and the other for non-citizens.

2. Upload the spreadsheet with your info to this highly encrypted folder by Wed Sept 10 (only the chapter chair and sergeant at arms have access to contents in the folder).

All attendees must register by completing and uploading the linked form.

Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) for students with disabilities in Fall 2025

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor, is a recruitment program that connects federal employers with college students, graduate students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to demonstrate their abilities in the workplace through internships or permanent jobs. 
How to Apply: Visit WRP.gov and click “Students Register Now!” to get started!  Registration opens August 25, 2025.

Who Can Apply? Students and recent graduates can apply to WRP if they:

  1. have a disability and are eligible under the Schedule A hiring authority.   You can apply for jobs using Schedule A if you are a person with an intellectual disability, a severe physical disability or a psychiatric disability.
  2. are a U.S. citizen or national (residents of American Samoa and Swains Island)
  3. are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program on a substantially full-time basis OR have graduated with a degree on or after April 1, 2023.

Registration and Application Deadline: Registration closes on Friday, October 10. You will need time to gather your resume, transcript, and Schedule A letter to complete your application, so please don’t delay!
