The Opportunity
The Justice and Safety Division’s (JSD) mission is to drive change to establish safe communities and an equitable and effective criminal legal system. We conduct objective, rigorous, interdisciplinary research, evaluation, and policy analysis and deliver data-driven recommendations, training, and technical assistance. In carrying out our research, we seek to center the voices, experiences, and perspectives of the people, practitioners, and communities most affected by crime and the criminal legal system. JSD seeks a Policy Assistant (Step 1/ Policy Management track) who can work collaboratively on projects covering multiple touchpoints in the criminal legal system, including policing, courts, corrections, reentry, and victim services, as needed. The position’s core responsibility will be to provide detail oriented, organized project management for various projects in the division, with some opportunity for research and analysis as available.

What You’ll Do:
- Support and collaborate with colleagues within the Justice and Safety Division (JSD) and across Urban to prepare internal and public products such as literature reviews, memos, reports, policy briefs, blog posts, webinars, and social media.
- Support planning and development of presentations, technical assistance, and trainings delivered by Urban staff for practitioners, policymakers, and other external audiences, including developing talking points, writing background memos, composing PowerPoint presentations, and creating training materials.
- Conduct background research on a range of topics by identifying, interpreting, and synthesizing both quantitative (statistical and survey data) and qualitative information (literature scans, review of relevant federal/local policies).
- Support a range of data collection activities including planning for and implementing field work/site visits, focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
- Provide project management support by scheduling team meetings and coordinating logistics; drafting emails, agendas, talking points, and presentations; taking notes and identifying action items and next steps.

Who You Are:
The successful candidate will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in criminology, sociology, public policy, or a related field.
- Preferably have demonstrated experience in a relevant professional setting, such as a nonprofit, philanthropic, government, or advocacy organization.
- Be exceptionally well-organized, highly motivated, and able to work effectively on multiple projects at once.

Coordinator, Physical Security & Intelligence
Location: New York, New York
The Coordinator, Physical Security & Intelligence supports the Security & Ballpark Operations Department in a variety of initiatives related to Major League Baseball’s headquarters office security and intelligence functions, among other projects. The primary function of this position is to provide building security officer-style services to the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. The Coordinator is also responsible for liaising with MLB’s employees, guests, and VIPs with an eye towards safety and security, as well as assisting with various protective intelligence-related projects. The Coordinator will report to the Manager, Physical Security & Intelligence and will work closely with MLB’s Real Estate, Facilities, and Officer Operations Department.
Responsibilities
- Greet and provide high levels of service to employees, guests, and VIPs on a daily basis
- Monitor closed circuit television, alarms, gunshot detection, and other security systems
- Coordinate daily employee safety and security duties with the Office Operations Department
- Maintain strong working relationship with building security (MLB’s landlord)
- Serve in the capacity of a floor warden coordinator in the event of a natural disaster or security incident
- Provide emergency first aid (CPR, AED) as needed
- Contact emergency services (police, fire) as needed, and serve as the coordinator between first responders and those in need of emergency care
- Respond to any safety/security incidents within office space
- Proactively address unusual situations as they arise or are reported
- Assist in protective intelligence threat management (research and document incidents, threats, and persons of interest)
- Assist with employee-facing security products and reports
- Play a supporting role in crisis management when needed
- Monitor global security developments, with an eye toward anything that may affect MLB’s international footprint
- Provide other overall support and related duties to the Department, as directed
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- One to three years’ experience
- CPR or NY First Responder certifications preferred
- Pass comprehensive background check
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to digest, analyze, interpret, and disseminate complex information in a logical and efficient fashion

Salary Range: $60,000- $67,500 (Base Salary) + Bonus and Overtime
Paralegal (Litigation/Labor & Employment Law) | Amtrak
Paralegal (Litigation/Labor & Employment Law) – 90304269 – Washington SUMMARY OF DUTIES:This position is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to attorneys and staff within the Law Department, specifically focusing on handling cases and administrative projects. The primary responsibilities include supporting attorneys in Amtrak’s Litigation and Labor and Employment teams, as well as assisting with matters before regulatory bodies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Where applicable, the position collaborates with Senior Litigation Paralegals to effectively manage and advance legal matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Act as a point of contact for Amtrak’s outside counsel in collecting case materials;Monitor and update cases through an internal case management system, noting deadlines and major case updates;Assist attorneys in carrying out legal research, including gathering and analyzing research data, such as statutes, decisions, legal arguments, codes, and documents;Assist attorneys in drafting legal documents, including contracts, subpoena responses, preservation memoranda, and statements;Liaise with numerous employees across multiple departments within Amtrak;Preparing cases for attorneys by organizing exhibits, finalizing affidavits and legal correspondences, and maintaining documents in paper and electronic filing systems;Assist attorneys in investigating facts and laws of cases, and search pertinent sources to determine causes of action and prepare cases;Assist attorneys in interviewing witnesses and scheduling depositions;Other special projects, legal support tasks, and administrative duties as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT:Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and case boxes weighing up to 15 pounds. Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision. COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. The salary/hourly range is $65,500 – $84,888. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. |
