Summer 2025/2026 – Counterterrorism Analyst Intern – 90282489 – Washington
POSITION SUMMARY: The Amtrak Police Department’s Intelligence Unit is seeking a qualified intern whose primary responsibilities will be the gathering and analyzing of current trends related to the counterterrorism mission of the Amtrak Police Department. Trends and data are gathered through the department’s suspicious activity reporting program, its record management system, through partnerships with federal, state, and local partners, as well extensive use of open-source resources. The intern will work on a variety of projects with a strong focus in national security. This is a yearlong internship, so candidates should be available from at least May 2025 to May 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Works with the Fairfax County Police Department to provide advanced/specialized crime analysis work to achieve the department’s mission to protect the community by reducing crime. Oversees designated components of countywide statistical and intelligence analysis, as well as the activities of divisional crime analysts in the analysis of specific crime trends and series, under the supervision of the crime analysis program manager. U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Advanced Training Facility, in Harpers Ferry, WV, is looking for at least 5-6 student volunteers to play various roles in support of mock crime scene processing.
For students who are interested in careers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or law enforcement in general, this will be an excellent opportunity to meet and network with experienced agents and learn about CBP careers while assisting with the training of newly hired agents.
Depending on the session, breakfast and possibly lunch will be provided, but there will be no reimbursement for travel or other expenses. Students should be U.S. citizens and be able to be outdoors for approximately 2-3 hours.
