Invitation to McNair Scholars Program Open House

We would like to extend an invitation to the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at UMD’s 2nd Annual Open House. At this event, we will showcase the outstanding work of our scholars and provide a comprehensive overview of what it means to be part of this transformative program.

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program serves first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students who aspire to pursue graduate studies immediately after completing their undergraduate degrees, with a focus on obtaining a Ph.D. Our program is designed to prepare these high-achieving students for success in doctoral studies through mentoring, research opportunities, academic support, and other critical resources.

Event Details:
Date: October 5th
Time: 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Location: Skinner Bldg Room 0200

The purpose of the Open House is to give students a fuller picture of the McNair experience, including the various services we offer, such as:

  • Research opportunities under the guidance of faculty mentors
  • Guidance with securing summer research placements and internships
  • Academic and career counseling specifically tailored to preparing students for graduate studies
  • Support with the graduate school application process, including writing workshops, financial literacy seminars, and GRE and application fee waivers
  • Assistance with funding for conference travel and presenting research

This event offers an excellent opportunity for you to encourage your students, especially those who may be interested in pursuing graduate studies, to attend and gain valuable insights into the McNair Scholars Program. By attending, students will learn firsthand from current program participants about the research opportunities, mentorship, and academic support available as they prepare for their academic futures and the path toward earning a Ph.D.

Thank you for your time and support. If you have any questions or require further information, please contact our Director, Dr. LaToya Walters at lwalter3 or mcnairscholar.
