Internship Program Overview
WSSC Water’s Student Intern Program provides college students with valuable, practical experience while helping to fill our talent pipeline. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge in your field of study and possibly secure future employment with us or other organizations.

Purpose of the Student Intern Program
Our Student Intern Program offers college students real-world experience, enhancing your educational journey and preparing you for a bright future. You will gain skills that can lead to job opportunities, whether within WSSC Water or in your chosen field.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a college or university.
  • Have completed at least one semester (12 credit hours) of study.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Successfully complete an interview.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Be legally eligible to work in the United States (proof required upon employment).
  • Check the specific internship posting for any additional requirements.

Part-Time GIS Opportunity with MD Department of Natural Resources

Are you a GIS-savvy student looking for a contract position to gain hands-on experience in environmental sciences? The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MD DNR) is seeking one proficient GIS student to work part-time (2-3 days per week) through April 30th, 2025. This position offers a great opportunity to build your resume, network with professionals, and make a direct impact on the MBSS (Maryland Biological Stream Survey) Program.

Position Details:

  • Pay: $22/hour
  • Hours: Part-time (2-3 days per week) through April 30th, 2025
  • Location: Remote work with occasional in-person coordination
  • Job Description:
    • Conduct landowner boundary analysis around stream points using ArcPro.
    • Generate USPS mailing lists for MD DNR.
    • Create maps and field packets for DNR field biologists to assist in finding the sampling sites.
    • Follow up with landowners who have not responded via USPS by making phone calls and sending emails.
    • Get the chance to meet and work alongside professionals from MD DNR and TetraTech.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ArcPro.
  • Excellent communication skills, as the job requires extensive phone calls to landowners.
  • Native English speaker required, due to the volume of phone calls to landowners.
  • Must not be limited by student visa hour restrictions as this role could easily exceed the allowed number of work hours for students on a visa.
