Join us on Saturday, April 26, from 10 AM – 4 PM for Maryland Day, the University’s biggest community celebration of the year! The Department of Geographical Sciences will be hosting a table on McKeldin Mall with interactive activities and giveaways—and we still need volunteers!

Advising is MANDATORY for all GEOG/ENSP students, regardless of Concentration, GPA, or credits earned.
Please review your ENSP advising requirements and advisor contact information HERE.
Remember:
- Advising Appointment Something you schedule with your advisor prior to your assigned registration date/appointment. During your advising appointment, you will discuss which classes you will take in the fall. You will also get your advising block removed, making you eligible to register
- Registration Date/Appointment The date/time you are eligible to log into Testudo and register for classes on your own (you can’t register unless advising is satisfied first and your block is removed!)

It was a genuine treat to see some of you at the recent “Pizza with the Chair” event. I am proud to have you represent GEOG as our majors. I particularly appreciated your willingness to share your very thoughtful insights into our courses and instructors. Sometimes it is very hard to see the full picture when you are looking from within the subject matter, and it is almost always impossible to remember what it was like learning about a subject you are very familiar with for the first time. I took some of your comments and suggestions back to our faculty and we are working on implementing the changes. I also made sure that the instructors you said you appreciated the most have heard about it. You may not realize that, but it really means so very much to the faculty That’s really why they are here. I am looking forward to continuing our conversation.

We are extending the application deadlines for the Harper Award for Exceptional Writing and the Undergraduate Research Paper Award! If you have not yet submitted, this is your chance to apply for these departmental awards, which recognize outstanding undergraduate work in geographical sciences and come with a monetary prize.

🏫 GEOG Summer/Winter Course Feedback
The Geography Department is seeking student feedback on summer and winter GEOG courses to help guide future course offerings and improvements.
Responses will be shared with the Geography Advising Staff, the GGSO office, and the GGSO representative.

UNDERGRADUATE LOUNGE COMPUTERS
On Thursday the undergraduate lounge was outfitted with two workstations for use by GEOG Majors. These computers have been relocated from the graduate lab for your use and convenience.
Do NOT eat or drink near the computers.
Do NOT drop, spill, or damage equipment.
If a computer is broken due to misuse, it will be removed.
Take care of these resources, or lose them. If you still need access to the lounge please email geog-advise@umd.edu
