Halò Scotland!
Hi! My name is Shyama and I’m currently a junior pursuing a dual degree in Operations Management and Business Analytics and Environmental Science and Policy. I am studying abroad this fall at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, located on the coast of the North Sea. Not only is it a picturesque medieval town, but the feel of the close-knit community has gained it the affectionate nickname of “The Bubble.” It is quite easy to be taken in by the natural beauty of Scotland, but inside the hallowed halls of its oldest university, professors have high expectations for students to live up to the famous reputation the school has garnered. (Yes, William and Kate did go here.)
I am very excited to join the ranks of students here and experience all the traditions of the town and the university! As a dual degree student, I have the opportunity to gain a truly multi-disciplinary experience and study courses in various branches of earth science this semester. Since the educational system is quite different in the U.K., a lot of the learning happens outside of lecture, so it’ll be a lesson in independence. In my time here, I hope to explore all that this beautiful coastal town has to offer!
