The Beginning (Pre-Departure)
The time has come! The moment I’ve been waiting for since high school, finally studying abroad. I’m so excited that I have the opportunity to go to a city like Copenhagen that has so much character and culture. With the excitement obviously comes the nerves, about meeting new people, adjusting to a different institution, culture shock, the whole shebang. However, the excitement outweighs the nerves.
My flight leaves at 6:15pm, lands in Lisbon, Portugal at around 1:45am, and then I have another flight from Lisbon to Copenhagen after a few hours layover, which will bring me to Copenhagen around 3:15. I decided to bring one large checked bag, a large carry-on, and then another large tote to bring onto the plane. I’m really hoping that my checked bag isn’t too heavy!
Regarding packing, I decided to buy those shrink bags that take all the extra air out. I think that was one of the best decisions for me since I have a very serious sweater obsession and over-packing problem. I also decided to bring toiletries. DIS (Study Abroad in Scandinavia) said that if you want to save space, don’t bring toiletries, since they have those all in Copenhagen, and they weigh your bag down. However, since I had extra room from using the vacuum bags, I decided I’d rather take some shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. which I can use throughout the semester. Then when it’s time to go home, I won’t bring those with me and that space will be taken up by all the souvenirs and clothes that I’ve bought 🙂
