Travel Week 1

At DIS, they have a unique way of doing breaks. There is a Spring Break / Easter Break, then there is a week off in March and another in April. However, one of these two is devoted to our core course. I spent the first week with my core course, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, in Berlin, Germany.

Before going, we were prepped on some of the companies we were going to visit, and our teacher also told us that we would have to pitch our startup to one company. This startup is like a semester-long group project that I have been working on with three other classmates. Our startup is solves travel-planning and organization issues, especially for young adults. We had to pitch this to a group of professional incubators, which was quite nerve-wrecking. Besides that, everyone was excited to visit Berlin and to be treated by DIS.

We arrived in Berlin on Sunday. After checking into out hotel we went to a dinner on top of the famous TV Tower. Then we went on a Bike Tour to see the biggest sights in Berlin.

Monday, we start getting into business mode: WeWork first, then Betahaus, another co-working space. Both incredible, very different places, even though they serve the same purpose.

Tuesday: DB Mindbox and PITCHES! They all went really well and it was fun to see other groups’ progress. After this we went to Topography of Terror, and the Holocaust Memorial. Then tapas for dinner, and a wine bar with a pay-what-you-want setup.

Wednesday: Small group visits. Me and a few others went to a gin distillery called Mampe. After this we went to Early Bird Venture Capital, and later, WeWork hosted a lecture for German Tech Entrepreneurship Center about the company SofaTutor.

Thursday: Started at the Spy Museum, then we visited the East Side Gallery, and online language education startup, Babbel.com., and we all had a German dinner at Brauhaus.

Friday: Visited the amazing architectural Parliament, then had lunch on top at Restaurant Kafer. After that it was time to go back to Copenhagen.

What an amazing week! Fun and informative! All thanks to DIS!
