Trip to Prague
Although this was the first year that I was not able to make it home for Thanksgiving, some of my family used their Thanksgiving break to make the trip to Europe. It was great to see everyone after about three months apart, even though it felt more like only a few weeks! Unfortunately, we did not have a break during this week here in Germany, so I still had classes to attend through most of the week. When I was in class, I suggested that my family go around Berlin to see the must-see sights such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Television Tower and the Berlin Wall.
After finishing my school week, we took the first train from Berlin to Prague on Thursday afternoon. We spent the next two days exploring Prague, which was very beautiful. Unlike Berlin, Prague remains an extremely old city with a uniform look and feel throughout the city. We visited the Prague Castle, which was perched on a large hill overlooking the old town and provided a stunning view of the entire city. While on the castle grounds, we accidentally witnessed the changing of the guards ceremony. The soldiers marched across the grounds to the sound of trumpets playing out of the windows of the castle.
After a few days in Prague, we headed back to Berlin. I wanted to show my family the Olympic Stadium, and luckily enough there was a game being played when we got there, so we got to see a Bundesliga game, which everybody enjoyed thoroughly. Although my family were only in Europe for a week, everyone left agreeing that they got to see a lot of Berlin, and that they enjoyed every moment of the trip.
