German Fußball Culture

Hertha Berlin v Borussia Dortmund

Germans absolutely live and breathe Fußball or football or soccer or whatever else you call it. One of my favorite things to do when traveling is to time my visits to certain cities that have home football matches going on that weekend. You literally here the streets roar with joy when the home team scores or groan in agony when the opposite team bangs it in the back of the net. And then, of course, I love to find street bars and join in on the fun.

I even had the chance to go to a Bundesliga (German 1st Division Football League) match with my friends and cousin. It was Hertha v Dortmund, not the biggest rivalry ever but nevertheless, the Olympiastadion in Berlin was sold out with nearly 80,000 fans joining in. Unfortunately, we(Hertha) lost 3-2 on a last minute goal by Dortmund but it was singlehandedly the best sporting event I have ever been to in my life.

Germans know how to do their Fußball right!
