The Côte d’Azur
Once you’re in Europe, you suddenly have the urge to get up and travel almost every chance you get. Nice’s airport is the second largest in the country so traveling was extremely easy. However, France and the Côte d’Azur should not be overlooked. The area is known for it’s summertime glitz and never-ending lights and even though it was the off-peak season, a part of the energy was lingering in the air. People from all over the world flock to this region to see what all the hype is about so meeting other internationals in town was normal.
There were plenty of places to take day trips to such as Ventigmiglia, the first Italian town across the border, Menton, a city known for it’s lemon festival right before the Italian border, Monaco, the second richest country per capita and also the second smallest country in the world behind the Vatican city, and plenty of other unique Southern French towns.
10 minutes on the local train will get you to Cannes. The film festival begins tomorrow (May 14th) and the energy being produced by the town is infectious. Photographers are setting up shop right outside of the red carpet to secure the best angles for the celebrities and the beach is being occupied by large screens that are supposed to play films at night time. Now that school is over, I’m going to take the rest of my time here to enjoy the area wholeheartedly with a (few) pain au chocolat serving(s) a day.
