The Office of Maryland Senator Katie Fry Hester, representing District 9, is looking to bring on one intern for the fall semester and subsequent 2025 legislative session. Interns will report directly to the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff, and responsibilities may include administrative tasks, constituent casework/correspondence, attending briefings or committee hearings, communications, policy research, and other tasks as assigned.
Both positions are eligible to start immediately through the fall semester, and will resume during the 2025 legislative session. The 2025 session commences on January 8th, and adjourns sine die 90 days later, April 7th. Almost all work may be done remotely during the fall semester, but interns will need to report to Annapolis two or three days a week during the legislative session.
Pay & Academic Credit: We are happy to complete the necessary paperwork for you to receive academic credit for both sections of the internship, but it is up to applicants to determine in advance whether their school or major would count this internship for credit. The session portion of the internship is paid through the MGA Internship Program, and pay depends on the scope of work completed.
Qualifications:
● Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills,
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment,
● Competency in social media and web-based computing is highly preferred,
● Superior research and writing skills, as evidenced by previous work or
academic experience,
● Familiarity with District 9, and
● Transportation to Annapolis from January-April of 2025 (though UMD shuttle
service or a personal vehicle)
