La Sagrada Familia
Sun shining through the stained glass of La Sagrada Familia.
La Sagrada Familia is the largest Roman Catholic Church, and is unfinished with about 70% of the structure completed. Antoni Gaudi was the lead designer in this structure, as you’ll find he has designed many structures around Barcelona and has given much influence to other designers.
Our group got a guided tour of the church, where we learned a lot about what details meant what.
The detail in this church is absolutely amazing. Every single detail has a purpose and means something in one way or another, starting from the outside, and working its way inside. Seeing the stained glass windows and the light which shown through them left me in awe. These pictures do not even begin to do it justice.
This visit was my favorite out of all the places we visited between Barcelona and Madrid, simply because of how it made me feel when entering it’s doors–like entering an aurora. To point out certain details in the pictures above, there were many columns inside, which if you look up were supposed to resemble trees, as if you were in a forrest. There were stained glass on each side of the church, which shown different colors depending on the time of the day and where the sun was. There is way more to explain, but it is really best to see it in person. If you ever travel to Barcelona, this is one place you must see.
