1. Which conception of transnationalism do you find most persuasive and why? Please base your response on the readings for the second and third weeks of class.

2. After reading the texts assigned for the second and third weeks of class, please explain why you think the questions of area studies and national literatures are such prominent topics in theories of transnationalism.

3. In Global Matters, Paul Jay writes, “The process we call globalization is characterized by the conflation of cultural and economic forms” (34). Please explain what Jay means by this argument. Do you agree with him? Why or why not?
