The Spring 2026 GVPT Maryland General Assembly (MGA) Joint Internship Program is now accepting applications. This opportunity will allow for students to serve as legislative interns during the 2026 MGA session in Annapolis.

Responsibilities may include writing reports and correspondence, tracking bills, communicating with witnesses, following committee hearings, preparing and reporting testimony, coordinating mailings & newsletters, and responding to constituents’ inquiries, among other duties. Students receive a stipend through the MGA and can earn credit through GVPT.

Students who work a minimum of two days per week and complete their internship will earn a stipend. GVPT students who are accepted to the program will also earn credit via GVPT377, which will satisfy an upper level GVPT Course of Choice requirement and have the ability to earn an additional 3 elective credits via GVPT376.

More information on the program and application instructions can be found here. This is a two step application process. Students will submit part one of their applications to Shayna Shor (sshor@umd.edu) directly. Once accepted to the GVPT portion of the program, students will then need to then submit an application to the MGA portion of the program. Applications will be due to Shayna by Monday October 13 by 5:00pm. The final MGA deadline for applications is Wednesday October 15, 2024. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to apply early if they are interested in participating. Students must be accepted to the GVPT portion of the program in order to complete their MGA application. Please feel free to follow up with Shayna Shor (sshor@umd.edu) if you have any questions about the program.
