Austria – US Teaching Assistantship Program

Each year, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education seeks recent college and university graduates interested in teaching English in Austria. More than 4,000 US teaching assistants (USTAs) have made a difference in hundreds of thousands of young Austrians’ lives over the decades. Requirements/Preferences: German language proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading must be B1 or above based on the CEFR scale.

France – English Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF)

TAPIF is a program of the French Ministry of Education and the Cultural Services of The French Embassy. Each year, TAPIF places around 1,300 Americans into French public schools to work as English language teaching assistants for 12 hours a week across metropolitan France, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and La Réunion. The seven-month contracts, which can be renewed twice, enable young adults to gain valuable classroom experience, improve their French language skills, and immerse themselves in the francophone world.. The application for 2026-27 placements is open (rolling) and will close on February 28, 2026

Requirements/Preferences:French language ability requirement: B1 (CEFR scale). TEFL/TESOL Certification Recommended (not required). Application fee of $149.

South Korea – English Program in Korea (EPIK)

The EPIK program places English language teaching assistants in a school, Office of Education, training center, English Experience Center or any other educational institute located under the jurisdiction of the Government of South Korea Office of Education. EPIK language teachers assist Korean teachers with their English classes, and/or jointly conduct English classes with Korean teachers, and/or extracurricular activities or English camps. Spring 2026 placement application is open (rolling); Fall 2026 placement application will open this winter, 2026. Register for a Thursday, November 20 Info Session by clicking hereRequirements/Preferences:Non-Education majors will need to obtain a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA/etc. certificate of at least 100 hours or more from an accredited program to be eligible prior to placement.

Spain – North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP)

The North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP), a program of Spain’s Ministry of Education, enables American college students and graduates – who are native/equivalent speakers of English – to work at elementary and secondary schools in Spain to bolster language programs, as language assistants (TAs) under the supervision and guidance of teachers in Spain. The 2026 NALCAP Application window will open in December 2025 for 2026-27 placements. Requirements/Preferences: At minimum a basic level of Spanish language ability.

Taiwan – Foreign English Teaching Assistant Program (Be sure to view the “Assistant” program information – scroll down to see this. Education majors may be eligible also for the “English Teacher” program with information on the same site.) Through this Taiwan Ministry of Education program, Foreign English teaching assistants work under the guidance of Taiwanese teachers to create a positive, diverse, and immersive English learning environment that encourages proactive English learning amongst students, thus raising overall English ability. Applications for 2026/2027 academic year recruitment will start from January 1, 2026 (rolling). Requirements/Preferences: a basic level of Mandarin/Chinese language ability is helpful but not required.
